fantastic deal February 21, 2009 JimmyJames (Boulder CO) 67 out of 68 found this review helpful
I did a lot of research before purchasing this unit including purchasing a subpar product (Nextplay - great for kids, except the quality is horrible) that I returned within three days of buying. I bought the DVD player primarily for travel with my three year old son and it has been wonderful. First, it is a terrific deal compared to other such units - nothing compares considering the carrying case, the two sets of headphones, and compliment of jacks.
The picture quality is as good as any 7" I've seen and the sound is the best I've heard and easily 'speaks above' road noise and even airplane noise (though I prefer the headsets on a plane).
I also use this player a lot as a DVD player in hotels, so this is also a very versitile player. I've only had this since December 2008 so I can't really speak to longevity, but I will say it does seem to be well made and I've not had any problems over the last two months - very refreshing since most electronics these days seem to be of the 'disposable' variety. Battery life also seems pretty good - somewhere around 3.5 hrs - more than enough to get me from Denver to Burbank, CA. And very easy to use - enough functionality for adults, but easy enough for a three year old to use.
All in all, I am very happy with this unit and would certainly buy another. The carrying case is good (not great) and works easily in the car. It has sufficient storage for the associated gear (car jack, AC/DC jack, TV jacks, and headphones), but no storage for DVDs. Assuming this lasts at least a year, it is well worth the money.
the best Audio sound without using headphones January 15, 2009 anonymously (Northern CA) 28 out of 29 found this review helpful
I brought the first portable Audiovox that came out many years ago. It lasted many years and many hours of usage.
It only broke down recently. I brought another one, a different named brand. I returned it. It just didn't have the sound that the Audiovox did. With the Audiovox you really don't need the headphones at all, the sound comes loud and cleared, although the headphones enhanced the sound.
I did researching, and found that this Audiovox has the best audio coming through on the portable DVD, especially on this model. Its because its has 4 speakers, 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom. If you want to relax at home or in bed, without having to have headphones on, this is the model to get. It's also user friendly, I loved it!!
The original model was made better, heavier, and not so filmsy and worked well, just like this latest model..but, the first one I paid more money.
I hope they continued to make models like this one with great audio sounds without using the headphones. I find headphones are too constricting when you just want to relax.
Great little portable DVD player! May 15, 2009 Angela D. Thompson (Kansas City, MO) 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I heavily debated between this model and a pricier Sony model. Glad I went with this one! Great bang for your buck! I bought this dvd player based on cost, reviews, and it came with all the stuff you need it to: TWO sets of headphones, an AV jack thingy so you can hook it up on hotel tv's if needed, a car charger, a wall charger, a remote control and a mounting bag for the car. This all mounted up to a great deal for a portable dvd player for the prime user: a 5 year old boy! Once I figured out how to mount the bag on the back of the car seat, we were in business! The top mount string is a little tight for my Jeep Liberty (the headrests don't extend), but it works! The remote works really well...I just have to point it in the general direction to get the DVD going from the driver's seat. I can't speak to the durability yet, as we have only owned it for a week or so, but it has a nice picture and decent sound. The storage bag has a zippered pocket that works excellent for the chargers and headphones so I don't have any reason to lose them! I really don't think you can go wrong with this DVD player!
Oh, and by the way, my son is CRAZY happy about this DVD player!
July 2009 Update: This DVD player is still doing very well. We have had NO major issues or any minor ones for that matter. Seems to be very sturdy. My son has even figured out all of the buttons and he can start his movies by himself now.
portable dvd player April 15, 2009 Anita Rodgers (Crooksville, Ohio USA) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is a nice product. I have had a hard time trying to find a portable dvd player with a package deal. It has a nice carrying case that comes with it and also two nice headsets, a charger for the house, and a car charger.
Great perfomance for the price January 20, 2009 Solar Powered (Lake Charles, LA USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I didn't expect the quality of this product to be so high. I purchased this as a learning tool for my grandaughter in my car ~ didn't expect anything so good that my teenaged duaghter watches her movies while we travel! My daughter said the sound and picture quality are "killer".
